In second place was Lionsgate's highly anticipated action film "John Wick: Chapter 4," which grossed $3.3 million in its opening weekend. Starring Keanu Reeves, the film also features stars such as Donnie Yen, and signals a slow but steady comeback for Hollywood titles in China. Its appeal among action fans could keep it a strong contender in the coming weeks.

In third place was Ace One Production's "Detective Chinatown 1900", which earned $3 million over the weekend. This is the latest installment in the comedy-mystery franchise, which has maintained its popularity and has reached a cumulative gross of $488.8 million so far. The film is captivating audiences with its humor and thrilling plot, making it a strong contender.

Lian Ray Pictures' romantic drama "Always Have Always Will" came in fourth, earning $2.2 million. With a steady increase in viewership since last weekend, the film's total gross now stands at $6.7 million (RMB 47.9 million). The film is gaining popularity among fans of emotional depth and romance.

Rounding out the top five was Vision Distribution's "There's Still Tomorrow" with $1.1 million. A blockbuster in Italy, the film has earned a cumulative $4.3 million in China so far, reflecting Chinese audiences' growing interest in international cinema.

Overall, the weekend box office was $36.1 million, bringing China's 2025 cumulative box office to $3.32 billion. This figure represents an impressive 56.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

With the continued success of "Ne Zha 2" and the slow return of Hollywood films, China's theater market is demonstrating its resilience and growth potential as March progresses.

It will be exciting to see in the coming weeks whether new releases will be able to challenge this momentum or whether "Ne Zha 2" will maintain its supremacy.
