An exciting revelation has been made for Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans, as director duo Joe and Anthony Russo have lifted the veil on the process of bringing back Robert Downey Jr. for their upcoming films Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

"Interestingly, this conversation started a while ago."

But the Russo Brothers were initially not up for it. Joe revealed, "Robert tried to convince us to do [Doomsday and Secret Wars] and we said 'no'. We had no story. We had no way. We were against it for a while."

The Russo Brothers, who have previously directed critically acclaimed films like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, believed that they couldn't handle this massive project without a strong story. His hesitation continued until his longtime collaborator and screenwriter Stephen McFeely came up with an idea that changed everything.
“One day, one of our main collaborators, Stephen McFeely, said, ‘I have an idea,’” Joe recalled. “We said, ‘This is the story!’ That story needs to be told; it’s a really powerful story!” McFeely’s idea was the spark that inspired the Russo Brothers to return to the MCU again and opened the way for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars to become reality.
Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Doctor Doom is not only a new twist for his career but also a big surprise for MCU fans. His journey as Iron Man ended with an emotional ending in Avengers: Endgame, but now he will be seen playing one of Marvel’s most iconic villains.
