The dark comedy is directed by veteran director Jay Roach (“Bombshell,” “Meet the Parents”). The script is by Tony McNamara (“Poor Things,” “The Great”), and is based on the novel by Warren Adler. It is a modern adaptation of the 1989 classic “The War of the Roses.”
The story follows Ivy (Coleman) and Theo (Cumberbatch) as a picture-perfect couple. Their careers are thriving and they enjoy a loving marriage. But this idyllic life is all but a veneer. While Theo’s career is in tatters, Ivy sets out to fulfill her own ambitions. This leads to intense competition and hidden resentments between them, leading to a major disaster.

The film stars Andy Samberg, Allison Janney, Nkuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Joey Chao, Belinda Bromley, and Kate McKinnon in key roles. Roach, Michelle Graham, Ed Sinclair, and Tom Carver serve as producers. Benedict Cumberbatch also serves as a producer through his Sunnymarch banner, working with producing partners Adam Ackland and Leah Clarke.

In 1989, 20th Century Fox released the movie “The War of the Roses,” based on the novel by Warren Adler. It was directed by Danny DeVito and starred Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. The film was a huge success, earning a BAFTA Award nomination and three Golden Globe nominations.
